Nightmares after two years @ home
Before Covid, I had my life sorted out. But then the pandemic hit and I was sent home to work remotely, just like millions of other employees worldwide, and the situation changed entirely.
Studies conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO) showed that in the first year of the pandemic, the part of employees being affected by depression and anxiety rose by a massive 25%. Social isolation and financial worries were among the main causes (cf. WHO Scientific Brief on March 2nd, 2022), and I think most of us can confirm.
Finally, I worked out some ways to deal with my increased stress that I would like to share with you in this blog.
Staying productive is my Nr.1 recommendation:
When work is cancelled, you need to find something challenging that gives you the feeling of achieving something, like painting in my case.
Secondly, I recommend you not to change your habits too much. Keeping a healthy sleep rhythm and a healthy diet increase the level of serotonin in your brain, and in consequence make you happier.
Of course, lots of helpful recommendations can be found online, but my main advice is: Stay productive, don’t lose your sense of time and you will soon feel better.

We completely agree with your point of view. Especially for us as young students, a lot changed during the pandemic. We used to go to university, study together and socialize by going out with friends. All this changed in March 2020 when the first restrictions were announced, and the time of lockdown began. During our studies, we had to do an internship which was organized in a completely different way due to the pandemic. We barely saw our colleagues and had to work from home most of the time. Concerning the productivity, we don’t think that it just has negative impacts as you save time by staying at home instead of traveling to the office every day. Furthermore, our managers put a special focus on team building and keeping an ongoing communication via online tools. Nevertheless, what helped us the most to reduce stress were daily phone calls with friends and family and going for a quick walk outside in the nature. In our opinion self-discipline and staying positive is the key to counteract your nightmares.
