Nonverbal communication in the business world

Only 30% of our communication is conveyed orally through language. While it is important to express yourself well and according to the context, non-verbal communication also plays a big role.

This is equally true for the business world.  Non-verbal communication affects the success of a presentation, a conversation with a customer, or a job interview. For a manager, it is essential to present oneself well in the above-mentioned situations. This includes an appropriate outfit, good posture, eye contact and a charismatic appearance. But non-verbal communication also includes gestures which can be used to underline or emphasize the message of one's words.

When dealing with customers, non-verbal communication helps you to understand the signals your counterpart is sending. Accordingly, you can adjust your speaking pace, volume and posture to engage with your conversation partner.

A third major form of non-verbal communication is facial expressions through which we express emotions like fear, contempt, grief, joy, surprise, anger, and disgust. Of course, there is more to non-verbal communication than the points mentioned above, but hopefully these examples have demonstrated the importance of non-verbal communication.

  1. The relevance of this article has become a key factor for our group. The topic of non-verbal communication has always been interesting in everyday life and unconsciously used by us on a daily basis, but most often it was not considered in the business field. As management students, we always want to know how to maximize our communication skills with other people. In practice, we always tend to choose the right words and dont think about our body language, but articles like this remind us that non-verbal communication is just as important when communicating.

But frankly I would like to see more real life examples of how to put into practice the physical signs of our body when communicating with colleagues or clients. It would be good to get advice on how to behave and how not to behave.
But despite the above shortcomings, this article remains informative and effective for the business world.
