Erasmus - Heaven or hell?

Image
Studying is stressful. Academic careers require a high level of dedication and work, that later potentially reflect in higher salary and a broader choice of jobs. Good grades are decisive, surely, but what really grabs the employers’ attention nowadays is having a semester abroad in your CV. Erasmus can be a lifechanging experience for students, but can also increase your level of stress even more. In 2021, around 75% of abroad students reported higher stress than at their home university. It takes lots of courage to jump into the unknown and live in a foreign country, leaving everything familiar behind. Don’t worry, you are not alone! The key to enjoying your time abroad is to be brave and curious. Get out of your comfort zone and try what appears new and strange to you, and you will eventually discover that these things make the greatest memories. Learning a new language can be difficult, but the first proper conversation will be the highest reward. To conclude, there is just one thi...

Nightmares after two years @ home

Image
Before Covid, I had my life sorted out. But then the pandemic hit and I was sent home to work remotely, just like millions of other employees worldwide, and the situation changed entirely. Studies conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO) showed that in the first year of the pandemic, the part of employees being affected by depression and anxiety rose by a massive 25%. Social isolation and financial worries were among the main causes   (cf. WHO Scientific Brief on March 2 nd , 2022), and I think most of us can confirm. Finally, I worked out some ways to deal with my increased stress that I would like to share with you in this blog. Staying productive is my Nr.1 recommendation:  When work is cancelled, you need to find something challenging that gives you the feeling of achieving something, like painting in my case. Secondly, I recommend you not to change your habits too much. Keeping a healthy sleep rhythm and a healthy diet increase the level of serotonin in your brain...

Image
In this article, we can see how such a big enterprise as Daimler AG (renamed Mercedes-Benz Group AG in February 2022) is trying to contribute to preserving the environment following a corporate social responsibility initiative targeting emissions. This is also a way to continue with the brand image of Daimler as an avant-garde cars manufacturer. As we can see in this notice, by 2025, Daimler wants to have at least fifty percent of new sales of fully or partially electric cars called hybrids. These electric engines however also have a second source of energy like ordinary diesel. This means that half of the sales of Daimler will be helping the environment with this electrification by creating less carbon dioxide emissions. These cards will be high-quality vehicles such as the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQS premium electric sedan which have a large profit margin.  The CEO Ola Källenius tell us the importance of its van business in its electrification goals. “Our goal is techno...

Due to the pandemic the natural networking mechanisms do not work anymore. Therefore we have to adapt and use the technology we have to keep our networks. As of course the pandemic made it close to impossible to meet new people in person it also made it far easier to attend various events even on the same day since they are held online. Via the chat function it is very easy to introduce yourself to a lot of people without much effort. Also people find it easier to text someone via zoom i.e. than stepping up to someone to start a conversation. On the other hand, sure there are some disadvantages about virtual meetings. Many specialist analysts, after social investigations, have come to the conclusion that there is a lack of social ...

Emotional Intelligence from the point of view of Banco Santander

Image
Emotional intelligence (E.I.) is something that nowadays is on everyone's lips , especially when we talk about global firms. In fact, a recent study made from the University of Málaga showed us that E.I. can develop the relationship between the firm and its clients, as it can develop teamwork between members and the capacity to lead a whole team too. In September 2009, Emilio Botín, the previous C.E.O. of Banco Santander (the biggest bank in Spain), said “if you do not trust yourself and your own capacities, you will not be able to reach your own goals neither the goal of the company”. These are principles and values that Banco Santander has applied since its first beggining in 1860. As presented in the article “ La inteligencia emocional mejora el trabajo en equipo ” published on 20.09.2009 by Carmen Sanchez-Silva in the newspaper El País , the emotions play a significant role in the business. The logic is not the only reliable information. The emotions influence our deci...

Source: https://www.theguardian.com/food/2022/mar/20/you-can-have-fun-and-experiment-inside-the-test-kitchens-where-restaurants-cook-up-new-dishes  First of all, you only need a few ingredients, a maximum of five people. They should have diversified taste for a better complementarity of abilities. A good combination of ingredients will lead to a better result than individual choices. One or two of them should be spicy, give them the role of devil’s advocate in order to counter harmful team consensus. In a mixing bowl cream together equal speaking-times and anonymous opinion collection. Then, add a tablespoon of safe space to speak up, so that everybody feels comfortable to express their ideas and to avoid missing important information. After that, fold in a collective responsibility for the outcome, so that everybody is included in the group’s decision making process. To finish, add a pinch of confidence in the person who has expertise in a specific area and top the whole thing wit...
